Our editorial process

How we create our guides

How OFFLIVA researches, develops, reviews and updates its guides — including how we use sources, editorial checks and AI-assisted tools.

Last updated October 2026

How topics are chosen

We choose topics based on a simple question: will this help someone find, understand or actually begin something worth doing?

That can mean helping a complete beginner start a hobby, comparing different ways to spend an afternoon, explaining what equipment is genuinely useful, or making it easier to choose between activities that look similar from the outside.

We also consider how a topic fits into the wider OFFLIVA Hobby Library so that individual articles contribute to something more useful than a collection of disconnected posts.

Research

Before publication, we look for the information a reader would reasonably need to act on the article.

Depending on the subject, that may include official documentation, established organisations, specialist resources, manufacturer information, reputable publications and other relevant primary or secondary sources.

The amount and type of research varies with the subject. A simple collection of rainy-day ideas does not require the same research process as an article containing safety advice, technical specifications or factual claims.

Sources and fact-checking

Sources are recorded during our editorial process where factual claims require support or verification.

Before an article is marked ready for publication, we review important factual claims, check that appropriate sources have been used, look for unsupported statistics or quotations, and make sure the article doesn't present invented expertise or experience as fact.

Sources help us verify our work, but a source appearing in our research does not necessarily mean that OFFLIVA endorses everything published by that source.

Writing and editorial review

Our aim is useful writing rather than content created simply to fill a search result.

Articles are reviewed for whether they answer the reader's actual question, provide practical next steps, avoid unnecessary repetition and connect naturally to relevant hobbies and further reading.

We also review structure, clarity, search intent, internal links, images and other publication details before an article is considered ready.

AI-assisted workflows

OFFLIVA may use artificial intelligence tools during parts of the content process, including research assistance, organising information, developing outlines, drafting, editing or identifying areas that need further review.

We don't treat AI output as a finished article simply because it sounds convincing.

Content still goes through our editorial process before publication. That includes checking important factual claims, reviewing sources where appropriate, looking for unsupported statements, removing invented quotations or experiences, and checking whether the final article is genuinely useful to the reader.

We also do not present AI-generated experiences, opinions or product testing as if they happened in the real world.

Updating existing content

Useful information changes.

We may revisit articles when information becomes outdated, when we discover a clearer way to explain something, when a linked resource changes, or when the OFFLIVA Hobby Library develops enough to make an existing guide more useful.

Articles may display an updated date when meaningful changes have been made.

Commercial independence and affiliate content

Some OFFLIVA content may contain affiliate links or product recommendations.

The possibility of earning a commission does not determine what we say about a hobby, activity or product. Commercial content goes through the same editorial checks as other OFFLIVA content, with additional checks for disclosure and recommendation claims.

We don't claim that OFFLIVA personally tested a product unless that testing actually took place.

You can read more on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Corrections

We want OFFLIVA to become more accurate and useful over time.

If you notice an error, outdated information, a broken resource or something that needs clarification, please let us know. We will review appropriate corrections and update published content when necessary.
